We are delighted that we have just received limited quantities of the highly sought after Venge Family wines
The Venge family has farmed vitis vinifera varieties in Napa Valley for nearly half a century. It is a journey that began when Knud Venge emigrated from Denmark to the United States in the early 1900’s. The family’s viticultural roots flourished in 1976 with the purchase of a 17-acre vineyard in the Oakville District that was planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This fortunate development cast the family among the winemaking pioneers of Napa Valley. Nils’ son, Kirk Venge, gravitated to winemaking at an early age. He proved to be as talented a winemaker as his father, making wines in his own style, with a vision to build on the family legacy. In 2008, Kirk achieved his lifelong dream and acquired full ownership of Venge Vineyards. Today, Kirk continues the Napa Valley heritage, focusing on select vineyard sites that produce fruit worthy of bearing the Venge family name.

2015 Scout’s Honor Proprietary Red Blend, Napa Valley
Big & Bold $44.99
2015 marks another great vintage at the Calistoga estate, especially for varietals like Zinfandel, Charbono, Syrah and Petite Sirah. The growing season started early after an unseasonably mild winter, leading into a cool bud-break resulting in low berry-set. These small bunches outperformed in the cellar: the high skin-to-juice ratio of the must has given the densest colored wines in decades and inky color happens to be a hallmark of Scout’s Honor proprietary red wine. This vintage is certainly a generous mouthful of red wine that winemaker Kirk Venge recommends be opened and enjoyed immediately upon release. Cellared correctly it will age for 5 to 8 years.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Big & Bold $59.99
Powerful and full-bodied, opening with scents of sweet cassis, anise, blackberries, roasted coffee and vanilla. The tannins are firmer up-front than the 2012 and 2013 vintages with a full mouth-coating lead into a concentrated and lengthy finish. This wine is approachable upon release and cellar-worthy in proper aging conditions. Best now through 2027.

2014 Late Harvest Zinfandel, Dessert Wine, Oakville
Always a crowd favorite when shared at the end of a hearty meal, the 2014 Late Harvest Zinfandel follows Venge’s tradition of making a serious late-picked varietal wine. This red is delightfully showy with aromas of raspberry jam, sweet alcohols, cotton candy and Bing cherry. The palate is utterly decadent with black pepper, chewy red preserves, grape jelly and a touch of sour cherry. Although an acid and tannin balance appears in this wine, neither are aggressive and will prove very useful in keeping the pulse of this Zinfandel going deep into ageing.
